More than 100,000 people in the United States are currently waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant, and more than 5,000 people die each year while waiting, according to Donate Life America. Many transplantable organs and tissues are unable to be donated due to restrictions imposed by a death investigator.
Medicolegal death Investigators, such as Medical Examiners and Coroners, are responsible for determining the cause and manner of death. Death Investigators have authority over evidence, such as the body, and over information relevant to their investigation.
Often, death investigators restrict donation due to concerns regarding loss of evidence or how donation may hinder their postmortem examination and their ability to accurately certify the cause and manner of death. The lack of processes, procedures, and associated training available to the donation and death investigation communities leads to a lack of cohesion on shared cases and a significant reduction in donation opportunities.

Solution
Provide technical training based on best practices to promote evidence preservation, enhance collaboration among industry partners, and increase donation opportunities. Goal: Reduce donation restrictions by onethird, resulting in 400 additional organ transplants and 3,000 additional tissue donors per year.

AlloEd will deliver training and resources including workshops, research publications, procedures, webinars, and other educational and reference materials funded through industry sponsorship.
Technical Training Workshops
Workshops will be offered a minimum of five times, including lectures that review core concepts, methods for preserving evidence, forensic photography, and other topics relevant to these overlapping areas of focus.
Research & Publications
AlloEd will execute two research studies with corresponding publications. AlloEd will collect preand post-implementation data detailing the rate of donation restriction and other associated data.
Resource Materials
AlloEd will develop resources and training materials covering practices such as photography, sample collection, and methods to preserve evidence that will be for free open-source use.
Lectures & Presentations
AlloEd will deliver virtual webinar presentations covering core concepts in donation & death investigation, as well as advanced conference and symposium lectures to engage senior personnel in relevant fields
